Life is full of ups and downs, and no matter how happy you can be at one moment, you can be thrown into despair in another. It’s just how things work. However, this can be seriously damaging to your mental health – in fact, over time it can be deadly.
This is why you should learn how to recognize the signs of mental exhaustion and stop things before they go too far. Here are 5 simple warning signs that will tell you that you’re emotionally exhausted:
You Lack Motivation
Lack of motivation happens to the best of us. However, it usually doesn’t last long. If you catch yourself having no motivation to do your job or something you like, it can be a sign of mental and emotional exhaustion. If you are mentally drained, just stop what you’re doing and get some rest, preferably alone. You’ll have time to reflect on things and hopefully find solutions to your problems.
You’re Easily Upset
When you’re under a lot of stress, the mind can only cope so much. There’s a limit to everything, including the amount of stress your mind can take. Mental exhaustion will make you far more sensitive than before and you can notice it by being upset more often. Instead of trying to toughen up and worsening the problem, you need to get some mental rest. Just give yourself a break and you should feel much better afterwards.
You Cry at Everything
We all feel the need to cry without a reason sometimes, and that’s the biggest indicator of mental exhaustion. Even if you don’t really cry, some actions or words can ‘hit the target’ and make you a mess. All the stress built up inside you will eventually burst, so try to take things slow.
You Can’t Sleep
Stress can make your mind race and eventually exhaust is, leaving you with no sleep at all. Even if the other stuff doesn’t get to you, the lack of sleep will. Over time, you’ll become more and more tired, eventually hitting a wall. In this case, you need to take a step back and get some mental rest.
Frequent Anxiety Attacks
Even a single anxiety attack is a sign that something’s wrong, but if you get frequent anxiety attacks, the problem is much worse. Anxiety sets in when the mind can’t cope with stress properly. If you don’t get help, it may eventually lead to depression or a point of no return. If you happen to be suffering from anxiety attacks often, get some rest before things get much, much worse.
You’re Emotionally Numb
Not resolving the problem in the first place will make you emotionally numb after a while. Nothing will get to you anymore and that’s not a good thing. You will eventually lose feelings for anything – if you notice this sign of mental exhaustion, it’s time to get help.
